Inspired is my thesis project for the MFA in Film Production

"What if Pixar made a live-action short?"

That's what I envisioned while working on Inspired. My goal was to bring the magic of animation to a live-action student short. The music, the storytelling, the colors, the production design, everything towards that one goal. I hope you like it as much as I did.

Synopsis

After the world starts turning grey, a young man must find a fix for his Grandpa’s magical machine to try and save the world.

Production Design

For this film, I created a special prop, a pin, for Grandpa Louis. The pin becomes and heritage to his grandson, Leo and a symbol for what the movie stands for.

The pin has a double imagery: a lamp conveying ideas and creativity; and a hot air balloon, to let ideas fly

Grandpa's magical machine, which brings color back to the world, was created using items from a thrift store.

colorist

In this film, parts of the world had to turn grey to follow the story. That effect was made in post-production, in DaVinci Resolve.

The colorization style was overall highly saturated to remind animation films.

The flashback scene had to convey a warm old feeling of nostalgia. For that, I changed the frame rate to 4:3 (common in the '80s), grain, effect, and warmth.
